Mixed Media: Sewing With Paper

I am always in pursuit of nifty backgrounds for pieces, and came up with cutting strips of colorful papers–and sewing them onto butcher paper. IMG_9327

This is a deeply treasured photo of our homestay student from Japan, Atsuko. She and my little son fell in love with each other and were inseparable during her stay with us. Many, many years ago now.

Here’s a shot of the stitching from the back:

I moved onto sewing pinks and thought of adding really old photos:

  1. I so miss my sewing machine and serger! The colors you chose are lovely…and the idea with old photographs. I could picture them in black frames.

  2. The material as a backdrop for the photos adds texture and contrast. Your son is adorable and I love the laughing woman. This is certainly unique. 🙂
